Nepal, a small beautiful country of cultural diversity is geographically bounded by China in north and India in rest three directions. The lower plain region close to India is known the Terai region where the life is fully concentrated in agriculture. The story is based on a unique bamboo trading journey from the terrain region.
The rat hunter’s story is from mid eastern terrain region of Nepal, portraying a life style of Musahar community as well as other people who depend on bamboo trade. The story is about Biko Saday a 60 years old Musahar man and his bamboo trading journey with the other trader. The word Musahar literally means the rat eater. The word “mus” means rat and “aahar” means to eat, the Musahar are also called rat hunter. Thus the title of the story is “The rat hunter” because it reflects a life style of a Musahar.
Bikon Saday being the bread winner of his family is a Musahar man of 60 as a main character in the story. It shows how Bikon works as a farm worker for his landlord and often goes to bamboo trade with other 8 traditional bamboo trader of the village. It shows the way of ancient wooden cart preparation along with the bull the metal foot shoes being fixed. The film is a journey documentary of the bamboo trader who covers 85 kilometres of journey in 5-6 days, their heart touching difficult bamboo carrying journey on bull cart, way of surviving on the way, way of rat hunting, snail catching and extraction of natural alcoholic drinks from tall tree. Finally the story ends up with selling the bamboo in Indian market with beautiful scenes from terrain.
